I did totally bottle the chance to play at Old Trafford for a United guest 11 many years back but that’s the closest I’ve come to a major appearance in any sport.
However, next week, I will be grilled gently by the former Chairman of Selectors for English Cricket, Geoff Miller OBE as part of a business event that will fuse anecdotes from the business world with a bit of good old networking and dare I say it…
Banter!
That’s because I have been invited to be on the panel that will have their careers combed through by Geoff whilst being royally teased and cajoled into various confessions.
The “Screw it Let’s Do It” Branson press conference opportunity will doubtless surface.
Will hiding Cherie Blair’s location come into it?
What about being ignored by James Caan – the Dragon, not the actor.
Or being rejected by Lord Sugar?
Probably all of the above and many more because frankly, I have had a very “interesting” career to date after switching from journalism to PR.
I do know some of the questions in advance, three of which got me thinking:
- What would your dream job be?
- What differentiates you? Your USP?
- Who or what is your ideal client?
For me, I genuinely am doing my dream job.
Unless I was living off the fat of the land. I absolutely LOVE “River Cottage”.
USP? I’m a former journalist so I have the “cheat codes” in terms of storytelling and pitching.
Ideal client? The expert in their field or that aspires to be. They want to be known as the Guru of gardening, the chief of charcuterie, the doctor of errrr doctoing. PR and content can do that.
What would YOUR answers be? I’d love to know.
