What’s Your Dream? An Accidental PR Lesson From A Marketing Master

A few weeks ago, I had the fortune to hear from (and meet) Simon Squibb.

Yes, THAT Simon Squibb.

Now, I’m neither a consumer or creator on TikTok (must do better Simpson) but I am always keen to hear from anyone who has nailed their art and even better, done so while making a MAHOOSIVE difference and frankly, a sh*t tonne of money at the same time.

I actually STOPPED listening to Simon’s Audiobook of “What’s Your Dream” about 70% of the way through because he specifically said to do just that if you don’t yet know.

So here’s me holding my hands up… I don’t yet know. Yet.

However, something Simon said on the stage whilst chatting with my client Nigel Botterill really did strike chord with me.

He was talking about the power of testimonials and how (in his agency days) they used to put their clients on their billboards when running campaigns. Smart move.

Then he almost casually mentioned how when they were in a phase of growth, their job ads actually began to act as marketing collateral.

The primary goal was to attract talented staff but a result of being SEEN to be constantly hiring was that clients tended to also notice these ads.

Now, their clients (given they were in the marketing industry) could well have been potential new hires but…they were also noticing that the agency was growing. Constantly.

There’s a momentum that builds here – “them again, they must be killing it, they’re hiring AGAIN!”

This is why I bang on about making sure that you get stories out when you hire new people or promote them or expand your team.

It is evidence of growth and proof that you are on the march. It shows you are doing well.

Your clients see this. Your prospects see this. Your potential star hires of the future see this.

So what’s my dream? Maybe that YOU start bigging up your people when you bring them in and when you promote them.

It is PRoof that you are getting BIGGER and BETTER with every new person that joins you.
