Now, far be it from me to medal*…
My first ever sporting hero was Daley Thompson.
Bags of skill, bravery oozing out of every pore, loads of grit, that glint in the eye, all bundled up with bags of charisma.
Not to mention a pretty cool moustache and Lucozade advert!
In fact, Athletics was my first love as a sport, until my stride length and power output ( which was somewhat freakish from the ages of 6-12) started to wane as other kids caught up.
Still, I went unbeaten in the South Peak Sports sprints and relays for about 4 years!
Anyway, there I was on my way to the European Athletics yesterday when I learned that I had made my own Final!
Yes, Muggins here is in the final 8 at the National Entrepreneur Awards in the Business Enabler category – the one which is for businesses who help other businesses.

Now, here’s a question…
When YOU make the final of an award does your chimp brain think:
“oh, I won’t post about that unless I win, as OTHER people might think less of me if I don’t actually snaffle the top prize…”
If so, pack it in!
If you make a final, pipe up PRONTO!
Nobody (barring some very “keen” folk) is sitting there noting it down in a little book, ready to scan the winners in a month or so’s time and tut-tutting as you “FAIL” to win!
If you make a final, you are amongst the best in your business.
Will you win? Who knows?
All you can control is making the most of it, win or lose.
Which is basically what I told this reporter when I couldn’t hold it in any longer and briefed earned media before owned!
Then told you.
Then told social.
NB: I always do reporter first as none of them wants old news.
So if you’ve recently made a shortlist or a final and done the square route of s*d-all about it, please, take a bravery pill and out it out there.
If you find that a challenge, brief me and I’ll soon have you feeling like Daley.
