Every January, the same thing happens.
The decorations come down. The wheelie bins overflow. And Christmas trees appear on pavements like a nationwide cry for help.
And every year I think the same thing: Why is no one turning this into PR?
Because right now, thousands of people are quietly Googling:
- “What do I do with my Christmas tree?”
- “Can I put it in the green bin?”
- “Is it OK to burn it?”
- “Why is my tree still in my house?”
And yet… silence.
The obvious expert nobody hears from
A local gardener, landscaper or garden centre could very easily be:
- On local radio
- Quoted in the local paper
- Picked up by a regional news site
Explaining:
- What to do with leftover Christmas trees
- What not to do
- Why some common advice is actually a terrible idea
No sales pitch. No gimmicks. Just useful, seasonal expertise.
Which is exactly what journalists want in January.
This isn’t about Christmas trees
Trees are just the example.
The real story is that January is packed with easy, practical PR moments, especially for local businesses and experts but most people miss them because they’re waiting for something “big” or “exciting”.
PR doesn’t work like that.
It works when you show up at the exact moment people are already dealing with a problem.
And January is full of those moments.
