Britain’s first youth police and crime commissioner has made a tearful apology for what she accepts was “inappropriate language and views” that she posted on Twitter.
Paris Brown, 17, from Sheerness in Kent, made comments about gay people and drugs, which have since been deleted.
Whilst Brown has been pilloried for her views, one does wonder what “vetting” or background checks the Crime Commissioner Ann Barnes and her team did on this young lady who has since been launched into the media spotlight.
It was good to see Paris and Ann do a piece with the BBC expressing huge regret for the comments but will the department regret a lack of research and general social media awarness for a long time to come? Ironically it is this sort of awareness in an “outreach” role that one imagines Paris Barnes was brought in to help with in the first place.
