Ode to a Haggis – have a butchers at this story

Mark Duckworth - who runs the award-winning Dales Traditional Butchers, up in the gorgeous town of Kirby Lonsdale. Having won with his Ode to a Haggis

Every now and then, I like to introduce our clients in this newsletter.

Sometimes they have had some epic PR results, won an award, done some sterling work for charity or have gone the extra mile for their customers or community.

That’s the case with Mark Duckworth, who runs the award-winning Dales Traditional Butchers, up in the gorgeous town of Kirby Lonsdale.

How do I know he’s award-winning?

Well, I helped him announce that his haggis won at the Golden Haggis awards back in November.

Mark's colleague with the haggis trophy.

That’s right, an English butcher WON a haggis contest in Scotland.

The news klaxon sounded and the coverage flowed.

You can read about it in the Scottish Sun here or as is better for Mark and his loyal local customers, you can read about it here in the Lancashire Evening Post.

As Mark is keen to keep up his PR momentum, he is now a member of our new Press Pass service (more on that below) and that is how I discovered the devastating news of the fire that has caused chaos and no small amount of tragedy in Mark’s town.

Many people have lost their businesses. Mark lost one of his best friends.

Yet in and amongst all this, Mark has just had the best quarter ever for haggis sales.

“Well he would do Greg. It was Burn’s Night and all that just this weekend”

Yes, it was….but this is his RECORD quarter, and this is a butcher that has been around for decades and generations.

All this despite the road closures, the fires, the loss of trade, confidence, energy, footfall and of course, Mark’s friend.

So give that a ponder.
Was it all down to PR?
Naw!
Did it help?
Aye!

Ultimately though, it was really “Ode to a Haggis” give or take a thousand.

My apologies to Robbie Burns!

PS if you are interested in snaffling a Press Pass, it is really pretty simple.

For £99/m (no contract) you get access to two PR and Marketing clinics with Greg and you accrue Press Points as you go. A Press Point is worth £1 against our PAYG PR services. So if you fancy a hand with a press story that we’ve discussed on the PR Clinic, you can use those accrued Press Points to pay for it. If you don’t have enough, you can just top them up.

Other services you can buy off the shelf include, blogs, case studies, media comments, awards research, award entries, “interviews” with your team or clients in a news style and tonnes more. If you want to see the pricing for the PAYG stuff, just ask.

Of course, if you want the team to run your PR for you, we can sort that out and if you want Greg to run the whole darn thing, that’s fine too. Ask us about our retainers if that’s you.
